OLD LEATHER BAGS

These old leather bags captured my attention today. The leather, originally stiff and shiny, is now worn and weathered. Designers are doing anything to achieve the aged leather look which shows that a product is made from the real deal.

This Givenchy bag above is all class, crumpled leather, simple pocket details and a gorgeous gold minimalist branding application. Worn with a pair of Vans. Nice.

SIDE HANDLES

I'm really liking side handles at the moment. Nice flat ones or even ones that do not really work - see the Jas M.B tan bag with the covered over handle.

This bag here is Jas M.B taken at Tranoi tradeshow in Paris a few months ago from their SS11 collection. I love the subtle (or not so subtle) allusion to the hidden handle and the general understated nature of the design.

This is a vintage bag from etsy. The front decorative strip may just be decoration but it reminded me of an oddly placed handle.

This is a recent photo from fashion week. This flat handle is actually functional but i love how it offers another way of carrying the bag but it also acts as a decorative detail.

The flat front handle is my decorative (or not so decorative) detail of the moment.

FREITAG TOTE

Freitag is still a cool brand and they are re-inventing themselves through a more grown up line as well as some very nice new shapes. Take this tote bag for example with a messenger style shoulder strap.

Its like a functional over night bag that can be slung over the shoulder and worn whilst riding a bike. I sold my old Freitag on ebay a year or so ago and i sort of regret it.

I'd like to get a new one but they are quite expensive. But worth it, as they are the original tarpaulin bag. There have been lots of copies, but none are as good.

Loving the Freitag. Nice work.

AIRLINE 70S BAGS

I like this shoot showing the jet age, aviation fashion and airline travel uniforms including the bags. The glamorous age of travel was accented by some very nice uniforms and travel bags. Mostly made from leather and vinyl, the shapes are rounded, simple and futuristic.

RUSSEL'S BAG - SCHOOL BOY CHIC

This is Russel and his backpack.

Its like a briefcase with backpack straps which convert when unhooked into a shoulder bag.

The inside is decked out with lots of pen holders which comes in handy when you want to be organised.

BACK PACK BRIEF CASES

These vintage style bags are a bit like children's school cases. Satchels are definitely the flavour of the month right now with boxy being the new slouchy.

Japanese school bag with ye oldy worldy plastic moulded handle which i adore.

These backpack straps convert to a longer shoulder strap when they are unhooked letting the user choose between a shoulder bag and a backpack... how very convenient.

I have one a little like this in purple which i like but i have had trouble using it as its so stiff, but i love it all the same.

THE FORMAL BUM BAG

So we've had the sporty bum bag and here is the formal bum bag - characterized primarily by the oh-so-sophisticated use of material - namely snakeskin.

I predict the snakeskin / sporty combination as the next big thing in bum bags /fanny packs. They are already fairly dorkus so why not go the whole hog.

Combined with a floral shirt... apparently anything goes.

And all you designers out there- if you are not sure whether you choice in snakeskin is formal enough, just add a bow tie.

TUCH SLEEVES

These are nice. I like the veg tanned leather finish. The leather will age beautifully over time being stained by the natural oils of the skin.

Have a little looky at their other stuff on: http://www.tuchmade.com

Here is the matching iphone case.

70S SUEDE PATCHWORK BAGS

These 70s style suede bags are nice. I like the craft meets fashion styling. I found them on etsy.
