WANT LES ESSENTIALS de la Vie

I love this brand - WANT Les Essentials de la Vie. They continue to make classic, amazing quailty products which also manage to have a really contemporary edge to them. This is a favourite of the moment, not so much the actual shape of the shopper but the fact of the exposed iPad case on the front. With a massive trend towards transparency and translucency in bags as you may have seen in some of my previous posts, this pocket is all about exposure.

Every time i open their website, i am completely overwhelmed by the striking beauty and quality of the products they make. They have a masculine but refined feel and from a designer's perspective a real focus on details which make leather goods absolutely sublime.

Translucent Satchel

The Cambridge satchel company has set the tone for this long living trend of satchels. We've seen bright pop colours, neon and now we have this translucent style. None of the lux details are lost in the leather trim. A nice bag spotted at London Fashion week ss13.

GIVENCHY

Its all about Givenchy at the moment, but fair play they have come up with this amazingly cute, simple gorgeous hand bag called the Pandora. A few years ago people would have laughed at this bag, now everyone wants to get it. Note the minimal hardware, odd, assymmetric construction and very simple classic branding. Less is more.

Givenchy, ss12

RED HANDLES. HMMM

Doing a little bit of research into handles of shoppers, I came across this bag, its from etsy, sorry lost the link. Handles are going back to being really simple with hardly any hardware to be seen. Less is more and even to the extent that the same material and colour is used in the handle as the main body material. I really love this simple red shopper with a flat construction and little darts down the bottom.

I BOUGHT MYSELF A NEW BAG

I must be so easily influenced, i don't normally splash out on bags spontaneously, but i recently bought this lovely thing. I love bags which seem like they are specific cases for things.

VINTAGE HIKING

Backpacks, rucksacks, whatever you want to call them. They are not just sporty with puffy shoulder straps anymore but go back to their roots of vintage camping with military inspiration. Here are some amazing images of vintage ruck sacks, note the colours, the details and the subtle branding style which make these bags so delectable.

WILLIAMS BAGS

These extra-ordinary bags by Williams British Handmade are by Sarah Williams. Generally the pieces are artworks inspired by vintage bags and made into strange shapes. They utilise traditional craftsmanship techniques and translate them into ultra-modern abstract pieces which seem to tell a strange, fantastical story.

See more of these amazing pieces at: http://www.williams-handmade.com/collections.html

I'm not sure what this bag is designed to carry, maybe a piano accordian?

SISAL BAGS

I have been doing my regular etsy trawl-through looking at bags as usual and wanted to post these cool 80s sisal bags. I just love them. I still have my original one that i bought when i was 15, recently shipped it back with me to london from Sydney where i had it storing my socks.

They are part hippy, part hipster, super practical, strong and feature the most amazing range of colours and patterns.

Sisal goes Egyptian?!

I normally love them more when they have raw leather handles providing some nice contrast, but i equally love this handle detail which dips down the front.

This one is definitely my favourite, I love the etsy description:

"Deep Dark Autumnal 1980s or 70s Woven African Bag .vintage sisal ethnic ruck sack .tooled leather top with buckle strap .your new fave backpack or hippie diaper bag .you decide"

So true!

Check it out on etsy right now: http://www.etsy.com
There are so many nice 80s things on this etsy shop!

MADMAXX

NEXUSVII have done a collaboration with Japanese legendary bag company Porter to come up with this dark and delicious collection. It fully explores the mash up between fashion and active sports, and reminds me of what would happen if a vintage hawaiian shirt had a crash with a New York bicycle courier.

The collection is featured here on Hypebeast there are a few more pieces to this collection but these are my favourite.

The collection is part of the Spring/summer 2011 collection appropriately named "you are my sunshine" and explores new technologies which allow photo printing on fabric to reach a whole new level of vividness and commerciality.

I feel like this collection is truly unisex with a sultry hawaiian vibe. The colours are super saturated and rich and the print pattern is intense and believable. Like.

CAMERA BAG KATE SPADE

A very cute little bag by Kate Spade called Pocomo. It has a SLR camera embossed onto the front flap. Its a little different to lots of Kate Spade's other bags, but probably one of my favourites.

I love the combination of the boxy-ness and the tan colour with the simple outline of the camera.

A beauty of the moment. But comes at quite a price at $225, you can check it out here: http://www.katespade.com

STUDIO TOOGOOD

These bags are from Studio toogood, creative consultancy... its the kind of place that does, in my book, truly creative work. Everything on their site, i just stare at for ages... i don't even know where to start with these bags.

They are an eclectic collection of odd camera and lens cases, fixed up and lined with a futuristic gold lining fabric. Little straps have been added here and there, but overall they retain their gorgeous vintage feel.

Both the bags themselves and the installation / display which was part of London design week last year, are just sublime... the type of thing i wish i was involved in.

The bags look like archaeological artifacts dug up for display at a science convention...

Coupled with the modest, humble surrounds and the stark white walls, the bags are given individual personalities. Hanging from little hooks ready to be plucked by the lucky new owners.

SIDE HANDLES

I'm really liking side handles at the moment. Nice flat ones or even ones that do not really work - see the Jas M.B tan bag with the covered over handle.

This bag here is Jas M.B taken at Tranoi tradeshow in Paris a few months ago from their SS11 collection. I love the subtle (or not so subtle) allusion to the hidden handle and the general understated nature of the design.

This is a vintage bag from etsy. The front decorative strip may just be decoration but it reminded me of an oddly placed handle.

This is a recent photo from fashion week. This flat handle is actually functional but i love how it offers another way of carrying the bag but it also acts as a decorative detail.

The flat front handle is my decorative (or not so decorative) detail of the moment.

TASTEFUL FAUX CHANEL

I LOVE THIS!!!
In fact, i am feeling a Chanel graffiti attack coming on right now. The democratisation of luxury? A fine comment on haute brands? either way. It rocks.

PROENZA SCHOULER SATCHEL

This was my favourite bag of the moment about a week ago, its the luscious Proenza Schouler satchel. Its understated, classic and you can't go wrong with the colour. I'm not sure what my favourite bag is right this moment, I think its the humble canvas shopper which i have a new appreciation for.

I still love it though, i think i have convinced myself not to like it so much because i would never be able to afford it.
