GIANT BACKPACK

This is a giant back pack, there is no other way of describing it. It looks particular funny because of its oversized proportions like it has been simply scaled up in adobe photoshop. I love the simplicity of it and the fact that it only has one main compartment and a simple front pocket. Probably not the most ergonomic bag in the world, but worthy of a saturday posting here.

Definitely a good one for my "oversized bags" link: click HERE

THE 90s

Did you have a stud machine in the 90s? I didn't. But i wish i had. I'm not sure why but this bag takes me back to the era of DIY decoration, the be-dazzler and such. The ultra cool, new thing about it is the wierd orderly fashion in which these little studs are arranged. It makes me imagine that some designer had received a swatch card of available studs and embellishments from the factory in china and decided to re-create the level of excitement faced when one comes across a sample swatch card.

Its like a little fishing tackle box where you have all your hooks and flies arranged in the little compartments OR some kind of wierd board game where you have to collect a certain number of stars or dome studs in order to progress to the next level.

Either way, this bag makes me feel happy. Happy in order. Happy in options. Happy in 90s embellishments.

WHAT DRAMA SHOPPER

This is the kind of drama you get to see at London fashion week. Great bag. Love a bit of typography!

CHILD LIKE BAGS

These bags from the autumn/winter 2011/12 catwalks are larger than life. The below clutches by Louise Gray are definitely lots of fun and look like they have been designed in some kind of dream state. Puffy handles, patch work materials and paintbox colours which swirl and clash are lots of fun on the catwalk.

The proportions of the handles on this bag combined with the narrowness of the bag makes me laugh.

Its like craft day at kindergarten, but in a wierd way, i sort of like it.

This one here is a real doozy. Its by Jean Paul Gaultier and its basically a fur lined shopping trolley, the kind you see old grannies wheeling around the high street. The bag has been edged with fur in a way which almost looks like it has been edged with pieces of steak - sloppy and shoddily done which gives it a very strange, almost barbaric feel.

Louis Vuitton mens backpacks

From the Louis Vuitton men's Spring / Summer 2009 catwalks recently in Paris.

In the spirit of 90's minimalism, these bags are made from luxury materials such as ostrich leather and seem to be inspired by vintage school satchels as evident from buckles, straps and name badge holder in the centre.

The monochromatic use of colour and leather give them a very understated luxury feel. For spring summer, they have a pretty wintery feel but i guess would make a great bag for a day down at the beach.

These bags signify and support the shift back towards 'dressy' mens backpacks. In particular the more structured variety. I really like the flat side handle and the leather loop tab in the centre.

The towel, or blanket holder at the base of the bags would make this a good one for a picnic or for carrying additional items or equipment down below. Due to the styling, materials and details, they also have a very luggage feel about them and would make a nice addition to a set of LV suitcases for more rugged terrain.

Vivienne Westwood drawn bags Spring Summer 2009

I just love these Westwood bags from the Spring/Summer 2009 collection. The hand-drawn on polka dots add a personal touch to the normally perfectly manicured look of designer handbags.

The work-in-progress dots give the feeling that the bags are in the middle of being designed. It also makes you wonder whether its the spontaenous work of Westwood herself which make these bags even more fantastic.

Leopard skin contrasting with fat marker circles.

I love seeing these casual shoppers on the catwalk, adding a beach-like casualness to the whole catwalk scenario.

John Galliano Autumn/winter 2008/9

I am really feeling men's bags at the moment, these bags are hot off John Galliano's autumn/winter 2008/09 catwalks in Paris. They are rough and tough and very masculine. This is a returning trend - the ultra-masculine, coming through both in mens and women's fashion.

The leathers are dry and textured with imperfections. The colours are tough and the cuts of the bag look like they have been made by cavemen. (as do the models)

Raw edges and torn finishes with roughly placed studs and buttons make the look raw and wild.

This elongated messenger looks like it has a sheep skin interior lining worn across the body either at the front or back. The hardware has a hammered brushed finish and looks like it could have come from an old gate.

Puma bag by Jacqui Ma

Good evening all. I ran out of inspiration for what bag to post today so thought i would stick up one of my earlier failures with puma. I'll leave you to decide for yourself. It was an early prototype for a new Lydia Hearst collaboration which got canned after most of the work was done.

White body with a couple of splashes of blue in the form of a 'waist belt' and highlighted zip track.

Very subtle Puma branding... in fact its just on the zip pulls and the applique cat logo on the base in body material.

I like the combo of mesh with PU (fake leather), the contrast is a real Puma thing.

I like it but i'm selling it right now to fund my retirement so check it out for yourself.

Oversized Shoppers

We all know about the phenomenon of the oversized bags of 2007, here are a few examples. This is the Burberry oversized unisex shopper. Pretty F*ing huge huh?!

This little number is by Camilla Staerk. She mainly does fashion rather than accessories, but in this case, the bag seems to be the main attraction. It takes the concept of oversized to a completely new level. What makes a bag look oversized? i think alot of it has to do with the composition of the bag's elements. In some cases the size of the bag is emphasized if the size of the handles remain 'normal'.
