ALEXANDER WANG

This sexy little number by Alexander Wang is an 'it' bag that people actually buy and wear, i have spotted it being sported around shoreditch many a time. Its super accessible and you don't even have to live in west london to have it.

What i love the most is the soft marbled leather. Did i mention that beautiful soft supple marbled leather? Oh my god, its so nice. poor cows. I also love the slinky chain and the metal zips on the front two pockets with facing zip pulls.

This bag reminds me a bit of an old pair of jeans. Nothing too flash but luxurious in its minute and subtle details.

Slouchy is another word that comes to mind.

and here is a close up of the leather which has a sort of denim look to it. Back to watching CSI now...

Chanel on Canvas

I'm really sorry i have had temporary amnesia and have forgotten where on earth i found these bags, so i cannot credit them. I think they are from an american shopping website such as barneys (which i have already looked in) maybe someone out there might know.

I just wanted to post them before i forgot cos they have been sitting on my desktop for weeks and i think they are much better off on here, than with the millions of other screen grabs, bank statements and random folders sitting on my desktop right now.

Its not really the newest idea on earth but i love the execution of these printed canvas shoppers. The iconic pieces printed on them make a statement about 'it' bags or bags that cost over say, £300 and at the same time, i'm sure these bags don't come cheap either.

Anyway, thats my friday bag post so hope you enjoy. Back to writing up my tradeshow from my visit to WSA in Vegas last week. Check it out on WGSN soon! x

Milan Fashion week mens portfolios

Good morning, its a rainy saturday morning in London town. Yes, i don't have much else to do tan post a few of my favourite bags These are some of my favourite street shots of mens bags from Milan Mens fashion week for Spring / Summer 2010. Sometimes the stylish fashion types that attend the fashion shows can outshine the shows themselves. Its a great place to pick up trends and this one is no big surprise to see italian men with 'man bags' but they are getting more and more interesting as times go on.

I absolutely love this one. Its a portfolio style clutch bag with a table tennis pocket posted onto the front of it. It looks like Fred Perry logo to me, but who knows, the preppy look is certainly in keeping with what Fred Perry would do. This bag says, I-am-a-man-carrying-an-effeminite-clutch-but-becuase-there-it-is-sporty-its-ok. Either way, its a man-clutch otherwise known as a portefeuille.

This one is very much in the man bag territory, but the flat retractable handle makes it more like a bag. The shiny-ish leather gives is a dressy business feel. Perfect to be teamed with a short sleeve red blazer!

c
This one is more like a mini briefcase. With its concertina style construction and antique tan leather finish it has a dual purpose as you can see from the detachable shoulder strap peeping around the corner.

I just love this newspaper inspired portefeuille. Dressed up as a spanish newspaper you could definitely be mistaken as someone just popping down to the shops for a croissant and the paper on a saturday morning if you are feeling a bit coy about clutch carrying.

Jil Sander Spring Summer 2009

These bags belong to Jil Sander's spring summer 2009 collection. They are also available to buy from oki-ni, the small 'show bag' is a whopping £459, and its only made from canvas to boot!

The angled front pocket is a signature twist, a nice quirky touch for a mans bag. Details such as the asymmetric buckle on the handle strap works both for adjusting the length of the bag but also to add a touch of metal detailing.

Shoppers are definitely becoming more of a unisex bag shape which we have been seeing all over the place on the catwalks but i'm still waiting with baited breath to see them start to be worn by straight men on the street.

I'm not so sure about the three angled pockets but its a simple yet effective design feature that in Jil Sander style is paired down and elegant.

Influenced by the lightweight canvas shopper, it will take off soon, probably by this summer, men out there you will find that this bag can fit a surprising amout of crap inside.

This much more commercial courier / satchel style take-down works wonders especially in that electric blue. Wouldn't it be nice if it didn't have to cost £459 though?

Bum Bags

I really love these belt bags, a cross between a bum bag, ammunition holder. The leather construction also remind me of workmens belts carried by electricians and plumbers in the olden days.

BAGALICIOUS, Lulu Guinness

Lulu Guinness at her finest hour. I love this bag. Its a bit of retro mixed with a bit of DIY. The frame bag construction with the tonal front pockets are quirky yet subtle, a perfect balance.
