NATALIA BRILLI

She has designed everything from laptop cases to jewellery and covered a drum set in leather. I love her stuff, her name is Natalia Brilli and she is a Belgium designer. It is not often you come across a designer who has such a specific claim to fame / MO, but still manages to have so much variety and newness in her work. I came across her a few years ago, but still love her stuff as much as i did then.

Her stuff is quirky and playful, clever and sexy at the same time. Its like a small obsession she has not unlike me and tape (http://ilovestickytape.blogspot.com/) but has managed to make an international brand out of it.

The embossed objects which seem to sit below the surface of the black leather give clues as to what is enclosed, and take full advantage of the beautiful properties of leather.

All her pieces are hand made in Paris and i am continuously inspired by her evolving style and collections.

PRINTED BAGS

These bags are a clever idea that i bet has been thought of loads of time, but someone has now actually done it, and done it quite well i think. Its the classic designer handbags such as Hermes Birkin and like printed onto the relatively disposable and super cheap but iconic canvas shopper.

I particularly love the quality of the print and the vibrancy of the colours that has come through.

And the printing of the base is pure class!

You can find out more about this on this fab site i found these bags at: weareselecters.com

SIDE HANDLES

I'm really liking side handles at the moment. Nice flat ones or even ones that do not really work - see the Jas M.B tan bag with the covered over handle.

This bag here is Jas M.B taken at Tranoi tradeshow in Paris a few months ago from their SS11 collection. I love the subtle (or not so subtle) allusion to the hidden handle and the general understated nature of the design.

This is a vintage bag from etsy. The front decorative strip may just be decoration but it reminded me of an oddly placed handle.

This is a recent photo from fashion week. This flat handle is actually functional but i love how it offers another way of carrying the bag but it also acts as a decorative detail.

The flat front handle is my decorative (or not so decorative) detail of the moment.

Chanel on Canvas

I'm really sorry i have had temporary amnesia and have forgotten where on earth i found these bags, so i cannot credit them. I think they are from an american shopping website such as barneys (which i have already looked in) maybe someone out there might know.

I just wanted to post them before i forgot cos they have been sitting on my desktop for weeks and i think they are much better off on here, than with the millions of other screen grabs, bank statements and random folders sitting on my desktop right now.

Its not really the newest idea on earth but i love the execution of these printed canvas shoppers. The iconic pieces printed on them make a statement about 'it' bags or bags that cost over say, £300 and at the same time, i'm sure these bags don't come cheap either.

Anyway, thats my friday bag post so hope you enjoy. Back to writing up my tradeshow from my visit to WSA in Vegas last week. Check it out on WGSN soon! x
