Translucent Satchel

The Cambridge satchel company has set the tone for this long living trend of satchels. We've seen bright pop colours, neon and now we have this translucent style. None of the lux details are lost in the leather trim. A nice bag spotted at London Fashion week ss13.

TRIANGLE AND PATCHED

I like small triangle bags. This one is made from patches in leather that reminds me of the 1970s. Its modern and vintage at the same time.

CHILD LIKE BAGS

These bags from the autumn/winter 2011/12 catwalks are larger than life. The below clutches by Louise Gray are definitely lots of fun and look like they have been designed in some kind of dream state. Puffy handles, patch work materials and paintbox colours which swirl and clash are lots of fun on the catwalk.

The proportions of the handles on this bag combined with the narrowness of the bag makes me laugh.

Its like craft day at kindergarten, but in a wierd way, i sort of like it.

This one here is a real doozy. Its by Jean Paul Gaultier and its basically a fur lined shopping trolley, the kind you see old grannies wheeling around the high street. The bag has been edged with fur in a way which almost looks like it has been edged with pieces of steak - sloppy and shoddily done which gives it a very strange, almost barbaric feel.

JC DE CASTELBAJAC

You've got to love Bambi.

Woven carpet bag with embroidered Bambi and friend. This guy is seriously mental... in a good way. I met him at Bread and Butter a few seasons ago. Check out his website, but don't do it if you have epilepsy. http://www.jc-de-castelbajac.com/

LOUIS VUITTON SPRING SUMMER 2010

This bags are pretty cool from the recent paris catwalks. as much as i love to hate lv, its a pretty nice collection. The splashes of colour in hanging trinkets, oversized and repetitive gives a fun vibe of not taking itself too seriously. The contrasting materials chucked together also work. The subtle concept of the bag-in-bag give a nice reason for a material change and the bags are not overpowered by that necessary but evil monogram print. I'm so over catwalks but over the next few days i'll post some of my favourite bags from the season. stay tuned.

J CREW BAGS

The J. Crew Madras Duffel Bag is perfectly sized for the gym or an overnight trip and is made from an authentic yarn-dyed cotton madras from India.

Patchwork is back! in many different styles and colours. This barrel bag is the perfect slouchy-ness for summer and also looks super light so when its not full it becomes a perfect floppy, slouchy shape. This is a winner bag and completes the weekender-preppy look.

Sequoia Paris - Multicoloured bags

Multi-coloured bags by French accessory company Sequoia. I really like the simplicity of the colour blocking. Its as you would expect colour blocking to appear but it is elegant rather than overly child-like.

I picked up these images recently at the bag show Mipel held in Milan twice a year. Its a great place to see lots of European bag labels under one roof. But be warned, wear your walking shoes.

Even though times are grim, Mipel showed that bright colours were as important as ever.

People might be wearing lots of black clothes but they still seem to be teaming their outfits with brightly coloured accessories. Think Louis Vuitton and Stephen Sprouse collaboration.

Patchwork is cool again

Patchwork is no longer exclusively a method of construction used to make leather stretch further for cheap bags. This home-made slash economical way of using smaller scraps of materials is making a big come back. Maybe reflecting the old credit crunch or maybe a greater awareness that the world does not have a bottomless pit of resources make this style make sense and look good

Pucci does it with style in their spring summer 2008 collection.

Street shot of another patchwork handbag in multi-coloured leather patches.
