I like the narrow handles of this bag and the inbalance (or balance) of proportion. The simple oil skin canvas bag is accented by thick but narrow quality leather shoulder straps. You can buy this bag here at the Merchant & Mills shop. They have a real bricks and mortar shop in East Sussex. I will keep this in mind for my next road trip. This bag retails for £48 not bad.

WHAT DRAMA SHOPPER
This is the kind of drama you get to see at London fashion week. Great bag. Love a bit of typography!

CANVAS RUCKSACK TO LOVE

This ruck sack is to die for, just love the detailing and the proportions of the front straps. Sorry to whoever it is on etsy who posted it who i can't credit because i am crap and lost the link.

Ruck sacks are still the 'it' bag of the moment, maybe its because i am cycling around everywhere and seeing them all the time, but either way, dressy day time backpacks are growing rapidly day by day in popularity.

I really love seeing personal creations on etsy - people making their own bags, its probably not really all that hard, especially simple ones like this made from humble materials such as canvas / cotton or even waxed canvas or coated nylon.

KARL WHO: CANVAS BAG
From Paris fashion week, i really love this bag. Total fashion whore look, but it rocks.

Low fi fashion... does this signal the end of the ridiculously expensive 'it' bag?

HICKOREES HARD GOODS
This range of cotton canvas bags from Hickorees Hard Goods are extremely amazingtastic. The online store have a lot of heritage work wear type apparel and accessories. These bags are so simple and paired down. Humble lux.

This is the website so you can check out the rest of the hardwearing canvas / leather trim range.
http://www.hickorees.com

This branding gives me shivers, its like burned embossing. I generally get the shivers when i encounter veg tanned leather.

The stitch work and embossing are so exacting and precise and although the fabrics are basic and understated, the result is extremely sophisticated and lovely.

CHANEL 31 RUE CAMBON
This very simple leather shopper is a sort of spoof shopping bag with a tongue in cheek feel from Chanel.

Thats my take on it anyway. Its humorous and sort of makes a comment about the value of hand bags by comparing a leather bag to the paper bag that lots of expensive stuff from Chanel comes packaged in.

The bag is designed to replicate a paper shopping bag - and in that, it is nothing really all that new, Louis Vuitton did it with their leather version of the chinese laundry bag (everyone has a different name for that bag), i will try to dig it out and post it here with these, so stay tuned.
In the same way, this bag is also quite modest, there is no hardware to be seen, it says what it does on the front, and makes so illusions about what it actually is. Thats why this bag should be respected, and it has my thumbs up.

ALEXANDRA CASSANITI
Alexandra Cassaniti started her line of bags, shoes, swimsuits, surfboards and other accessories in Spring 2008. The bags are all made in the US of A and i really love the natural feel of them. Her signature brushstroke design is really bold and the pieces look exquisitely made. The more i look at the bags the more i really love them. they look so effortless. Visit her site to check out some more products including some amazing jewellery. http://alexandracassaniti.com

Chanel on Canvas
I'm really sorry i have had temporary amnesia and have forgotten where on earth i found these bags, so i cannot credit them. I think they are from an american shopping website such as barneys (which i have already looked in) maybe someone out there might know.

I just wanted to post them before i forgot cos they have been sitting on my desktop for weeks and i think they are much better off on here, than with the millions of other screen grabs, bank statements and random folders sitting on my desktop right now.

Its not really the newest idea on earth but i love the execution of these printed canvas shoppers. The iconic pieces printed on them make a statement about 'it' bags or bags that cost over say, £300 and at the same time, i'm sure these bags don't come cheap either.

Anyway, thats my friday bag post so hope you enjoy. Back to writing up my tradeshow from my visit to WSA in Vegas last week. Check it out on WGSN soon! x
