Voltaic Solar Panel Backpack

We've all seen these bags in geek magazines, but i have to say that i actually saw someone with one in shoreditch the other day. The solar panels are used to charge electronic items being carried around in the bag and it comes with a range of nifty adaptors. The pricetag is a steep £190 but ticks the green boxes.

Raf Simons and Eastpak

Raf Simons has teamed up with eastpak in this fancy backpack collaboration. Eastpak is best known for their iconic backpack shapes worn by millions and Raf Simons... well, to be honest i didn't even know who he was before this collab. But apparently is a belgian fashion designer who started off as a product designer.

He was probably best known as the creative director of Jil Sander. You can see that these bags are rather slouchy and dare i say oversized. They also have a very 80's feel about them, this especially comes through in the print design and colour blocking.

They also remind me a bit of the marc jacobs strappy white canvas backpacks that i have featured in here earlier.

The collaboration with eastpack seems to be a great partnership, a real refresher to their long standing iconic styles but with a pricetag of about €300 i don't think i will be seeing young skaters sporting them.

Marni my favourite

This Marni handbag has a messenger feel about it, so its going in the messenger category. Handbag meets messenger. Love it!

Ella's favourite bag

This is my friend Ella's favourite bag. She sent me this image to add to my bag blog. This a description of this bag in her very own words....

"thought you might be interested in my favourite bag....It's made from coloured felt balls. The felt is so thick that it makes it hard to fit anything in. Despite this unpractical design, I love it. I like to wear it with a black outfit and red shoes to show it off, like a nice piece of jewelery."

Please send me a photo of your favourite with a description of what you love about it. And if you have a bag you find irritating, send a pic too with a caption of what you find annoying, irritating or non-functional about it and i will publish it right here in the 'My Bag' category.

Looking forward to your submissions!

Kate Spade Clutches

This is Kate Spade's 'Andalucia bow becca' made from tumbled metallic calf skin

And along the big bow theme, this one is called 'tuxedo park bow becca' and is made from a combination of suede and sequins. I particularly like the carrying strap on the back (below).

The little grab handle at the back of the bag means you can loop it over your arm meaning you are really wearing it on your sleeve.

Kate Spade's 'Mallorca Selby'. I really love the mixture of the modern striped webbing combined with the more oldy worldy woven body fabric. The cute little button clasp detail is ingenious.

This basket clutch with metallic detail really means business. I'm not sure what kind of outfit you would wear it for, but i reckon it'd look great with jeans and a t-shirt.

Same with this one. (tisbury minu clutch)

Again, the same shape as the previous 'selby', the Napoli Selby is a bit more toned down and conservative, personally i prefer the Mallorca Selby which definitely more edgy.

The 'chilmark ava clutch' has a softer, more flexible construction. I think its a slightly less challenging version of the Tisbury Minu clutch.

Wash bags and small bags

Paul Smith

Paul Smith mens wash bag with leather trim. Constrained and elegant.

Lulu Guinness has done it again with this cute little number with the lipstick zip pulls.

Another view of the gorgeous Lulu Guinness trinket container with lipstick zip pulls.

Quite a standard construction but its the materials, pattern and colours that make this special. Also the cute constructed handle gives it the finishing touch.

This Juicy Couture bag looks really practical.

Quite restrained for Juicy as well.

I think this is mandarina duck, but also has traces of inspiration from crumpler. it could be crumpler, i'm not sure.

Lovely White Hobo Bags

This looks like a sea creature. Let me know if you know the brand of this bag.

Mandarina Duck casual white hobo bag

Gucci white hobo with bambo handle.

What brand is this? I like the double buckle shoulder strap.

White-ish bag with cool panelling.

Marc Jacobs white hobo

Another white hobo with front zip detail.

Irritating Trinkets

These little Louis Vuitton purses and keyrings are so french in a bad way. The little cutesy 'petit prince' porter man does my head in. I think i'd just prefer just the coloured stripes but even then i don't like Louis' monogram epi-leather in the first place.

This Prada bear keyring is not so much irritating in execution, its just slightly irritating that prada can make a flattened little teddy bear with a few sequence on it and then charge over £100 for it. I'm glad i didn't get one for xmas.

Wierd and Wonderful Bags No.1

Antrobus Convertible Bag designed by Alison Antrobus is as wierd as her name. You definitely have to look this up on and check it out as it converts between a clutch, a tote and a shoulder bag. With a pricetag of US $1,250, I like the idea of the bag changing states but it seems to look a bit more like a block of flats than a luxury bag.

Embossed coin purse. Simple, kooky and interesting.

These two bags are the graduating project of designer Gonnie Jannsen. They are all about flexible volumes. They are certainly conceptual and interesting.

This bag is also by Gonnie Jannsen exploring flexible volumes. Although not as conceptually strong as the previous bag, its looks a hell of a lot better.

Wierd wierd wierd. What would this be called? the silver dining setting bag? Who the hell is responsible for this?

Totes

Chloe tote bag with anodised gunmetal hardware. The proportions of this bag seem to work so well. The bag is feminine without being overly girly, as Chloe does best, the style is sexy, tough and stylish.

I really love the story-telling aspect of this bag. The outside compartments literally tell a story of what is meant to be put inside each pocket. All the elements are feminine and iconic. The result is a bag which verges on being a piece of art.

The combination of materials (shiny and matt) and colours (clashing natural brown with purple) shouldn't really work, but the result is quite nice. What brand is this bag?

Once again, the literal addition of the pockets on the front panel look good. The use of nylon body material rather than leather make the bag younger and fresher.

This D&G tote is all about the body material and striking colour. I love the crushed, wet look leather and I also think that the use of a single material only works well.
